Defenders of the Past
Description: ThisĀ participatory program is conducted by two actors in-role, using drama conventions and theatre-in-education techniques to encourage students to consider the relevance of remembering and preserving the past. The programme uses role, objects and the historic site, in a fictive context, to bring the past into focus.
Year/Level: All year levels
Student Numbers: Minimum 2 classes.
Time: This is a half day participatory program. We suggest that the other half of the day could be used for one of the following activities in the loal area:
  • Courier Mail Tour
  • Port of Brisbane Tour
  • Brisbane Airport Tour

Learning Experiences
Students participate in:


  • Investigative problem solving
  • listening to stories of the past
  • interpreting physical and documentary evidence to learn about the past
  • considering changes in the world and the impact of these changes
  • considering changes in technology and the impact of these changes
  • making inferences
  • communicating ideas and experiences with others
Post-visit: Teachers will be given suggested follow up material
